Canada, Relativism, and the Church Hierarchy

Mark Mallett offers a personal account of the Canadian Church, which he has been able to know intimately as a Catholic singer and evangelist. He is wounded at the crisis of truth and the confusion that has risen in the Canadian Church. The bishops did not stand beside the Church but retreated and offered couples the ability to use contraception even after 1968 when Humane Vitae was published. It is especially sad that the Canadian national bishops conference voted to retain the Winnipeg statement, which continues to authorize the use of contraception by Catholics, as late as 1998. Now, we watch the dissolution of the faith and the rise of a new form of fascism where even the suggestion that homosexual acts are disordered can find one guilty of committing a ‘hate crime’. Within the past year, the Canadian national bishops conference had to be asked by the bishops of Bolivia, Mexico, and Peru to stop funding programs that promote abortion.

There is a true crisis in the Canadian Catholic Church.

Unfortunately, there is evidence that the US Catholic Bishops Conference may be guilty of funding similar programs. Their response has been to attack the reporter/pubilcations rather than address reality.
